Being vulnerable and opening up is hard and scary, but you don't have to do it alone. I believe healing happens in a space of warmth and understanding. My approach to counseling is relational—I listen with care, support without judgment, and walk alongside you in your journey toward growth and mental well-being. I am a licensed mental health counselor with a master’s degree in clinical mental health counseling from the University of Northern Iowa. My experience spans clinical and academic settings, where I have provided individual and group therapy, as well as education and outreach focused on trauma, mental health, and stress management. I have experience in working with clients who struggle with depression, anxiety, trauma, and life adjustments/transitions. In my full time role at Mindspring Mental Health Alliance, I help coordinate volunteers, programs, and outreach efforts for the organization. Outside of work, you’ll find me chasing my twin girls, spending time with friends and family, and volunteering!  Age - 18+ Insurance Taken: Foster's Care Fund, Wellmark (Blue Cross Blue Shield), UMR, Cigna, Iowa Total Care, United Healthcare, Wellpoint, Molina, Aetna.

Your greatest asset is yourself, so let’s invest in YOU! Mental health is essential to overall well-being. Our greatest resource in navigating life is our state of mind—it shapes how we experience both life’s challenges and everyday moments. True mental health is not a distant dream or ideal; it is a birthright. With greater clarity, it is remarkable what we are capable of achieving, overcoming, and becoming. As a counselor, I am driven by the consistent, game-changing impact that an understanding of the mind has on individuals. I specialize in stress relief, anxiety, burnout, grief, depression, trauma, addiction, and self-confidence challenges. My work focuses on optimizing mental performance by helping clients understand how the mind actually works, allowing key change and insight to emerge naturally. I work from the understanding that people are inherently wired for well-being, health, peace, contentment, and joy. Just as your immune system heals your body despite constant adversity, mental health already exists within you—sometimes we need a guide back to it. Clients often describe my sessions as unintimidating yet transformative—challenging in ways that inspire reflection rather than pressure. Working with me involves teamwork aimed at fulfilling your goals, lifting stress, cultivating perspective, discovering actual resiliency, and improving your overall mental state. If you’re looking for a trusted collaborative partner on this journey, I invite you to reach out for a complimentary consultation. I would be honored to meet you. When you gain a clearer understanding of how your psychological experience is created, lasting change becomes sustainable. A deeper understanding truly makes all the difference. Ages 13+

Getting started with anything new in life can be challenging, and therapy is no different. Congratulations on taking that first step in your healing. It would be my honor to walk along your healing journey with you. I work to create a warm and welcoming space where you can feel safe to be your authentic self. I am empathetic, compassionate, and offer a non-judgmental space for you. I graduated from Drake University with my Bachelors in Elementary Education. I worked in the education field for several years but knew this was not what I truly felt called to do. It was when I began my own therapeutic journey that I found my true passion in life. This led me to go back to school for my Masters in Mental Health Counseling. I graduated from Walden University in May of 2025. I like to integrate a variety of modalities including Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and person centered. I have experience in working with adults who struggle with anxiety, depression, trauma, and neurodivergence. As a late diagnosed Autistic woman I am passionate about working with other neurodivergent women and men. I have seen and experienced the pain that can come from not being given a diagnosis as a child. I am passionate about helping individuals gain an understanding of the complete person they are and how to live in a world not designed for them.

Maybe anxiety, past experiences, or negative thoughts are taking up more space than you'd like. You might be a parent unsure how to help your struggling child, or maybe something just feels off. I work with school-age children, adolescents, and young adults, especially adolescents. My experience includes anxiety, depression, trauma, ADHD, autism, and the challenges of growing  up. I believe therapy starts with a genuine relationship; before tackling the hard stuff, I want you to feel comfortable, understood, and truly seen.  My sessions are client-led and conversational, not clinical or stuffy. I use CBT, DBT, psychoeducation, and mind-body approaches, but always tailor therapy to you. We might explore thoughts, emotions, coping skills, boundaries, or how stress shows up in your life. With kids and teens, therapy might include games or creative activities; kids shouldn't have to talk like adults! Not every session has to feel heavy; there’s space for humor, celebrating wins, and just being yourself.  Ultimately, I hope you leave my office each time feeling like a small load has been lifted from your shoulders. My goal is to help you better understand yourself and recognize that you aren't alone in what you're experiencing. I'll support you through the lows, celebrate with you through the highs, and gently challenge the patterns that may be keeping you stuck. Difficult things may have happened in your life, but they don't have to define your entire life or who you are. You don't need to know exactly what to say or have everything figured out before coming to therapy. We can start wherever you are. Abby.Harper@Diamondhearttherapy.com
